Panniculectomy (Abdomen)
A panniculectomy addresses solely the excess of skin that hangs below the waistline (pannus) in either the obese patient or the patient who has lost a significant amount of weight.
This section of overhanging abdominal tissue is removed, while the layer of tissue superficial to the muscles is not tightened in this procedure. Based upon the extent of the patient’s functional deficits with the excess skin, insurance may occasionally cover this procedure.
